Wellbeing

Our Wellbeing Approach

At Y Community School, wellbeing is at the centre of everything we do. We know that young people learn best when they feel safe, supported, connected and valued. Our approach recognises that wellbeing and learning go hand in hand, supporting students to engage in education, build confidence and develop skills for life.

Guided by the Y’s core values of Caring, Respect, Honesty and Responsibility, our wellbeing practices are inclusive, trauma-aware and responsive to the individual needs of each young person.

A Holistic Focus: Mind, Body and Spirit

Our wellbeing philosophy is grounded in a Mind, Body and Spirit approach that supports the whole person. This means we focus on:

  • Emotional and social wellbeing — helping students build strong relationships, resilience and self-awareness

  • Physical wellbeing — encouraging healthy routines, movement and positive body awareness

  • Connection and purpose — fostering a sense of belonging, identity and meaning

By supporting all aspects of wellbeing, we create an environment where students feel empowered to grow, learn and thrive both in and beyond the classroom.

A Supportive and Connected School Environment

We intentionally create a school culture where every student feels welcomed, respected and known. Strong relationships are a cornerstone of our approach, helping young people feel connected to their school community and confident to re-engage with learning.

Our team works closely with students, families and community partners to provide consistent support and remove barriers to education, ensuring each student is given the opportunity to succeed in their own way.

Educating Differently

Our Wellbeing Support Team

Students at Y Community School are supported by a dedicated wellbeing team who work alongside teaching staff to provide day-to-day guidance, connection and care.

Youth Workers

Each classroom is supported by a dedicated youth worker who plays a crucial role in delivering our evidence-based wellbeing practices. Our youth workers are a consistent and trusted presence within the school. They build strong relationships with students, support emotional regulation, and help young people develop positive behaviours, social skills and confidence.

Senior Wellbeing Staff

Our senior wellbeing staff provide leadership across the school’s wellbeing practices, ensuring support is coordinated, responsive and aligned with the needs of our students and community.

Together, our team delivers a wrap-around, student-centred approach that supports wellbeing, engagement and positive educational outcomes.
